Hope you have all had a good August and are enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend.
Tuesday Night Running
This week, we are meeting at the Rugby Club as usual – 6:30 for a 6:45pm start. Please use the sign up sheet so that the Lead Runners know who to expect. Thanks.
Tuesday 7th September is our final Pub Run of the summer. We are meeting at The Bell in Bosbury ready to go at 6:45pm and then back to the pubs for a drink and chips! Please sign up so we make sure we get enough chips ordered.
Thanks to Jo Taylor-Greig for sorting these out this summer for us.
Harriers on Tour
It has been good to see on Facebook that the Harriers shirt has been worn in different parts of the country. Neil Grinnell took his to Lyminton Parkside Parkrun and Ella Hogan took hers to the St Levan 10K in Cornwall. Has your Harrier shirt been away this year? If so, where did it go? – always need write-ups for the newsletter!
Sian Aubrey completed the Parkk Bryn Bach Aquathon last week.
Here is the write-up and a photo or two!
“Looking around at everyone else limbering up on a sunny August evening I thought what am I doing? I had entered the Parc Bryn Bach Aquathlon in the hope to get some experience of a race swim start. The race is the third of an Aquathlon series meaning that most people had completed the course twice in the previous races in June and July.
After the briefing we were counted into the water, I spent far too much time faffing about getting my swim hat on right and before I knew it the start klaxon had gone. I went for it thinking I would be last and worked hard to get with a group. The sun was setting on the gorgeous lake and every time I sighted I could barely see the bright yellow buoys. Instead I focused on a rhythm and the person’s feet in front of me. As we turned for the home straight I decided to try and overtake the man in front of me, I succeeded but not before he walloped me on the head with his hand (accidentally I hope!). Clambering out of the water, 750m done I ran to transition. Wetsuit off, shoes on and out for the 5k run. After trying to get my breath I settled into a steady pace. I didn’t wear my watch so had no idea what time or pace I was doing. The 5km was two laps of the lake with an added turn around on a slope each time. Marshall’s shouted encouragement at every corner and there were lots of spectators which helped! Before I knew it it was time for the final sprint, I managed to overtake a lady on the final stretch and finished in 60th place out of 75. No medal but, considering how organised it was for a small race I didn’t mind! A beautiful setting and really lucky to complete an Aquathlon with the swim in open water. Really pleased with my total time of 50:03 , I will be back!”
Newent parkrun ‘takeover’
It has been good to get back to parkrun and to see a good number of Ledbury Harriers at Newent. We are proposing to do a ‘takeover’ on 16th October (date to be confirmed). By this, we will do all of the volunteer duties allowing people who are often volunteers to do the run themselves. We will need at least 11 volunteers to cover all of the roles and it has been suggested that we could also put on the pacer bibs! I will collect names on a Tuesday night and you can also email me at email@example.com with Parkrun in the subject line and I will put you on the list. More details to follow – so watch this space!
With about 13 parkruns quite close to Ledbury, it was mentioned prior to Lockdown that some parkrun tourism would be a good idea. Can I propose that we look at the last weekend in each month to go and do a parkrun at a different location, wear our club vests and have a coffee afterwards?
