Newsletter 21st March 2021

Hi there

Return to Running

I hope that you are looking forward to being able to meet and run in small groups again.  Please don’t feel that if you haven’t run for a while that you can’t join us.  Please sign up for a group that you would feel comfortable to run with – we want to see you back!

The groups are as follows:-

  • Jeffers – walk & run as the group pleases. 3 miles
  • Gentle Joggers – 11 – 12 min mile pace, around 3 – 4 miles
  • Easy Runners-  10 – 11  min mile pace, around 4 miles.
  • Runners – 9 -10 min mile pace, around 4 – 5 miles
  • Sprinters –  8 – 9 min mile pace, around 5 –6 miles
  • Fast –  7 – 8 min mile pace, around 7-8 miles

The sign-up sheet for the 30th March is available here:- Sign-up Spreadsheet.  Hope it works.  Any problems, please let me know.

Meeting places are as they were previously:-

Jeffers – St Katherine’s Car Park

Gentle Joggers – Primary School Car park

Easy Runners – Swimming pool car park

Runners – Homebase

Sprinters – St Katherine’s Car Park

Fast Group – Market House

It should be light enough to get round most of the routes in daylight by then but be prepared with hi-viz and torches for the first couple of weeks.

The England Athletics guidance on returning to running  can be found here:-

https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/guidance-update-2021/

As soon as we are able to do so, we will get back to our full club meetings.  Keep an eye on the newsletters and website for more information.

As we will soon be running together again,  you will want to renew your membership!  Our membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March so now is time to get those forms sent to Mark Lister.

2021-22 Membership forms

The membership form can be found on the website here:-

https://ledburyharriers.org.uk/our-club/membership/

We have held our prices for renewing again this year.  It is £15 for the standard membership without England Athletics affiliation or £30 including the EA membership.  England Athletics membership allows you discounts to most races (remember those?!) and other offers including discounts at a variety of sports retailers.  England Athletics affiliation is only available until 31st May as we have to register all affilliated athletes by the 30th June.

Thursday Club Night

43 people replied to the survey and over half said that they would want to come to a Thursday evening session  with another quarter saying that would come depending on what was going on.

Off-road, speed work and running techniques were all mentioned as the things that people wanted to do at this session.

We had a Lead Runners meeting last week and have decided that the Thursday evening session will be a mixture of all of the above but the main emphasis is going to be on having fun and  improving our running at the same time.

Because we want to get people from all groups are mixing, the sessions will start in May once the restrictions are relaxed further.  We will be spending the next few weeks developing the sessions that we will put on.  So watch this space for further details!  The sessions will start at 6:30pm as this was the most popular choice from the survey.

Magnificent Eastnor Castle 7 – 25th April 2021

We have decided that we will be running this event this year and the new guidelines allow us to do so.  However it will be in a slightly different format.  The course will be open from 10 am and entrants can come and run it at any time between then and 2pm.  Times will then be sent into us and we will then collate them into ‘race’ results.  This means that you can take part in the event as well this year.  We will have marshalls on the course and ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has already said that they are willing to help out on the day.  If you are able to help out for an hour or two, that would be great.  Please let me know.  Chris Law will come up with details of how many people we need and at what times so once we have that, we will let you know.  We do need a couple more people who have current First Aid at Work certificates who would be willing to be around on the day.  If you do or know of someone who would be willing to help out in this role for an hour or two on the day, again, please let me know.

Entries will be via Entry Central and details published soon.  They will be open from the 29th March.  Unlike previous years, where the race has been open to everyone; this year we are inviting local clubs to come and take part in the event.  This is to allow us to ensure that we can manage the extra COVID precautions which will have to be met.
