May Newsletter

As we move towards Summer and the weather has improved it is good to see so many members out on Tuesday evenings and at races at the weekends.

Please put details and photos on the facebook group so that everyone can see and perhaps inspire others.

There are a number of events coming up in the next month:

Pub Run (6th June)

The first Tuesday pub run of the Summer takes place from The Bell at Bosbury. Meet at 6.30 to leave as usual at 6.45. Chips in the pub afterwards. We will run in groups as usual.

Town Trail Litter pick (Sunday 11th June 10.00am)

We are taking part in the Great Big Green Week by picking litter on the Town Trail and/or the Riverside Walk. Please let me know if you can help. We will be out and about for about 2 hours but you don’t need to be there for the whole time. I will post full details of where we are meeting and equipment needed on the members facebook group nearer the time. You should wear appropriate clothing and bring heavy duty gloves.

Newent parkrun takeover (Saturday 24th June)

We are aiming to provide all of the volunteers for parkrun at Newent on 24th June. We need marshals, timekeepers, a token distributor and a barcode scanner. If you are a parkrunner and have volunteered before you will know all about it, but if you haven’t volunteered or have never been to parkrun it doesn’t matter, full training will be given. If we have enough volunteers we can also provide some pacers.

Please let me know if you are able to help. You will need to be at Newent school for about 8.45 and will be finished by no later than 10.15.

Finally

Membership

70 people have already paid but if you have not yet done so please let me have your form and pay your fees (great value at £15 for non affiliated membership).

For those who want England Athletics Affiliation the fee is £32 but this must be paid no later than Tuesday 30th May as the window closes the following day and I have to register the affiliations by then.

Niamh Hogan Fundraising Event

A big thank you to Dave Bannister for arranging this and for all of the club members who turned up and ran. Over £300 was raised to help Niamh, and scouts from the developing world, to attend the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea later this year.

Magnificent Eastnor Castle 7

As many of you will know the club makes donations to worthy causes out of the profits from the race. This year we have made a donation of £1,000 to the Save our Track campaign aiming to relay the running track in Hereford and £500 to The Cart Shed, a local charity helping people with mental health difficulties.

Social Media

We are making much greater use of social media to arrange and publicise club events. There is the Ledbury Harriers (members only) facebook group, Hike Bike Paddle and Fun WhatsApp group (primarily used to arrange social runs and bike rides etc) and the LDH parkrun group (used to discuss all things parkrun). If you would like to be added to any of these groups please let me know.

Good running!

Mark
