March Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

The nights are getting lighter and the hour comes off next weekend so we will soon be able to do more interesting runs, not confined to running round the town on a Tuesday evening.

There are quite a few things to bring you up to date with this month:

Magnificent Eastnor Castle 7

Despite the best efforts of the weather to scupper this year’s race it went ahead last weekend and more than 150 people took part. We have had good feed back from those who ‘enjoyed’ the conditions. A huge thank you to Chris and Helen who do all of the heavy lifting to make this event happen. There was a real possibility that we might have to cancel when the usual car park was too wet but the alternative arrangements seemed to work. Dave and Caroline drew the short straw with the car parking but did a great job. Thank you to them and all of the other club members who volunteered over the weekend, we couldn’t do it without you.

Membership Fees

The new membership year begins on 1st April. The updated membership application form will be on the website in the next few days. The club fee remains unchanged at £15, but if you want England Athletics affiliation the fee is £34 (an increase of £2).

If you have joined the club since 1st January 2024 your membership automatically extends until 31st March 2025 and you do not have to make another payment unless you want England Athletics affiliation in which case you will need to pay an additional £19. This is only available until 31st May.

England Athletics also now require individuals to sign up to their Code of Conduct via  the MY ATHLETE RECORD page in the myAthletics portal.

We do ask that ALL members, new and old, complete an application form each year. I appreciate this is a bit of a pain but it is important for two reasons. Firstly it means that we have up to date emergency contacts for all members and secondly it means that you are aware of the club’s privacy policy.

Club Kit

I am pleased to report that the new club kit has arrived. For those of you who have ordered the kit I will bring it the rugby club on Tuesday evening (26th March). If you can’t get there please email or message me to make alternative arrangements.

If you didn’t order kit but now would like either a tee shirt or a vest we have additional stock which Neil Grinnell will be storing. Vest £26, Tee shirt £28.

Social Events

Jayne is beavering away at organising our Summer pub runs. They take place on the first Tuesday of the month beginning in June and running through until September. For those of you who are new to the club we run from different pub venues and when we finish we meet in the pub for a drink and chips. Full details of venues to follow.

We are also hoping to have a skittles evening at the British legion in Ledbury. The ticket price will include fish and chips. Date and prices to be confirmed.

Local Races

There are two local races that it would be good to support:

The Mayor’s Mile Sunday 14th April at 10.30

This is a very informal race, one, three and six mile options, no chip timing  or formal results (but there is a good medal!). It only costs £5 to enter and it is for good causes. A few of us did it last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The poster for the race is here

Dymock 5mile and Half Marathon 26th May

We had a good turnout for these races last year. Link to entry details is here

I look forward to seeing you at club runs and races over the Summer

Take care when you are running
