Newsletter – 15th March 2020
Commiserations to everyone who has had their upcoming races cancelled especially those training for a marathon or their first-ever event. If your race has been postponed, hopefully you will be able to make the revised date and take advantage of a few weeks of reduced training.
With regard to our own race, we will take note of any guidelines coming from UK Athletics and the Government and will keep you all posted. This will also apply to any other events that we are putting on – both social and running.
In the meantime…
Upcoming Events
17th March – Treasure Hunt. We will be having a Treasure Hunt as part of our Tuesday Run. There will be 10 items to find and photograph. It will be done in the usual Tuesday groups. The items are such that every group from C25K to the Fast Group can find them. Prizes will be available at the end. It would also be nice if people stayed for a drink in the bar afterwards.
17th March – If you are interested in joining the 5K – 10K group with the aim of running Dymock 10K at the end of March, please have a chat with Kate Elkington after the run on Tuesday in the bar so that she can start to put together a programme which meets people’s needs. If you are not around on Tuesday but are interested, please let me know and I’ll pass your details to Kate.
21st March will be the Couch to 5K graduation Parkrun. Please come and support the new ‘graduates’ either by running or volunteering.
21st March. Skittles Evening at the British Legion
Plans are taking shape for the skittles evening at 7.30 pm on 21st March. It’s being held in the function room at the British Legion in Church Lane and a full bar is included with a guest beer and all the usual drinks. There’ll be home-cooked chilli and desserts and a skittles alley for a bit of light-hearted competition. Please let Jo know if you’d like to join in – we’re hoping for a few more names! Email jotaylorgreig@gmail.com. £5 a ticket.
24th March – Move Up Week
Our Couch to 5K graduates will be joining us for their first club run and this is also an opportunity to try a faster group if you feel that you are possibly getting too fast for your current group but nervous about making a change. There will 2 leaders per group to make sure that everyone is looked after within the group especially if the group is bigger than normal.
29th March – Magnificent Eastnor Castle 7 Race
Details of this run have been finalised:
Canicross 10:45
Main Race 11:00
Kids Race 11:10
Entry fee – affiliated £14 non-affiliated £16
Refreshments are now being organised by Ella and Edd Hogan. We have enough volunteers for the cake stall but we will need cakes to be brought on the day. Thanks!
Entries are now live – https://www.entrycentral.com/MEC72020. Please promote at any races you attend or share across Facebook with any other groups who may be interested.
Chris Law will be round to get names for help over the next couple of weeks for marshalling, set up etc.
5th May – Beauchamp Arms, Dymock – Summer Pub Run
Litter Pick
The Litter pick will now be on Saturday 9th May. Meet at the Rec at 11:30am.
14th May Film night at the Market Theatre. The film is “Run, Lola, Run”.
The film will start at 8pm. The bar will be available and tickets will be £5 each. Friends and family welcome. Please note that the film is rated as a “15”.
16th June – Yacht Race . This is a timed 5K run. You get together in pairs and decide how long your combined time will be. The pair closest to their estimate wins! The catch I that you can’t wear a watch or other timing device. You don’t have to run with your partner. I will be getting names and times at a later date.
Lead Runners this week
Jeffers: Catherine
Gentle Joggers: Sally R
Easy Runners: Help Needed
Runners: Laura
Sprinters: Help needed
Please can I remind you of the running group pace and distance. It is important that groups stay together as much as possible and those faster runners in the group should muster back to the runner at the back. This is really important as it makes everyone feel part of the club.
Jeffers – Run/walk group
Gentle Joggers – 11 – 12 min mile pace, around 3 – 4 miles
Easy Runners– 10 – 11 min mile pace, around 4 miles.
Runners – 9 -10 min mile pace, around 4 – 5 miles
Sprinters – 8 – 9 min mile pace, around 5 –6 miles
Elites – 7 – 8 min mile pace, around 7-8 miles
Fast and Fun
Thursday night 6pm meet at Homebase or 6:15pm at the corner of Prince Rupert Road.
Everyone welcome. You don’t have to be fast – you just want to run faster.

Publicity
Please send any race reports to Holly who will try and get them into the paper. If you can email Holly with photos that would be good as the resolution of photos taken from Facebook isn’t good enough for the paper.
