Newsletter – 28th November 2022

Hi All

Newent Nine

We had an excellent turnout at the Newent Nine last week.  Unfortunately it clashed with the cross country run so a few of our regular runners were missing.  There were a number of familiar faces amongst the prize winners:-

Chris Grubb – Male Vet 40 and 2nd place overall

Steve Rooke – Male Vet 50

Clifford Berry – Male Vet 60

There were a number of new pb’s for the course and for some runners in the 5-10k group, it was their first race over that distance.  Well done to everyone who turned out.

Cross country

We have had 2 races so far in this season.  The next race is on 18th December at Fforest Fields – Builth Wells.  Please see Neil if you would like to take part in this one.

The other dates are

  • 15th Jan – Croft Castle
  • 26th Feb – Bockleton nr Leominster

Annual Dinner

We had a great evening on 4th November at The Wellington for our Annual Dinner.  Thanks go to Jo Taylor-Greig for organising it for us.

London Marathon place

If you have been rejected from the the London marathon ballot this year, you could have another chance to take part.  We have been allocated one place for the club.  To be eligible to take part in the club ballot, you should:-

  • be a paid up memeber of Ledbury Harriers with an England Athletics affiliation
  • not received a club place before.

If this applies to you, then please forward me your rejection email and I will put your name forward to the ballot.  The draw will take place on 6th December, just before we start the run.

Magnificent Eastnor Castle 7 – new date

The date for the race this year is the 19th March  (not the 26th).  Please can you put the date in your diary as we will need volunteers for that weekend as marshalls, course set-up etc.

Entries will go live between Christmas and New Year.  Please help us promote the race so we get a good turnout again.

Couch to 5K

We will be running another Couch to 5K group starting on 10th January.  If you would be willing to be a group leader for this, please do let me know.  We usually end up with 3 groups so we will need at least  3 leaders in order to make it a success  and to also carry on with our other groups on a Tuesday night.

Tuesday Night Groups

After the success of the 5-10K group, we are going to rearrange the groups slightly.

Jeffers/Gentle Joggers/Returning from injury group. – This will be a 3ish mile run or run/walk depending on who turns up on the night.

Gentle Joggers + – This will be at the current Gentle Joggers pace but will be between 3.5 – 4.5 miles.  The aim of this group is to run further  but without regular stops to rest and regroup.

Easy Runners – 4-4.5 miles at 10-11:00 min/mile pace

Runners – 4.5 – 5.5 miles at 9:00 – 10:00 min/mile pace

Sprinters – 6 miles  at 8:00 – 9:00 min/mile pace

Fast Group – sub 8:00 min mile

AGM Date

The AGM for the club will be on 12th Janaury at the Rugby Club.  7:45 for an 8:00 start.  Everyone is welcome  and to put forward their ideas and suggestions for 2023

New committee members needed

Jayne Cresswell, Jo Taylor-Greig and myself are stepping down from our current roles at the AGM.  Therefore we have vacancies for the following positions:-

  • Secretary
  • Social Secretary
  • Chair

Please do come and talk to any of us about what is involved with these roles.  The job descriptions will be posted shortly.

We also need a volunteer to revamp the Club Championship  so that it is inclusive for all members of any speed/ability  and becomes something that club members want to take part in.  Please come and talk to either myself or Jayne about this would involve.

Thursday night sessions

We will be starting the Thursday night sessions again after Christmas.  We will publish a programme for this.  One thought is to have a programme to improve your 5K performance ready for the Hereford Couriers 5K series which takes place over 3 months starting 5th April.  Hereford Couriers 5K Series    It would be great to get as many Club members to turn out to these as possible.

Thewre will be an informal Thursday night session up to Christmas.  Keep an eye out on the What’s App group and Facebook for more info.  Meet Prince Rupert Road at 6:30pm

Food bank collection

We will be having our annual collection for Ledbury Food Bank on the 6th and 13th December.  All donations will be gratefully received.  Most items are needed  (with the exception of pasta at the moment).  I will take the donations down on 14th December.

Look out for details about our post-run Christmas social – hopefully on 20th December.
