Hi,
It has been a strange Summer as far as running is concerned, not too hot for most of the time and very wet on some days. As we move in to Autumn we have got quite a lot going on.
October pub run
We have decided to have an extra pub run this year. On Tuesday October 3rd we will meet at the Market House at the usual time (6.30 to start at 6.45) and there will be the opportunity to have a run in the woods. Please bring headtorches and wear trail shoes if possible. After the run we will retire to The Prince of Wales for chips and a drink.
Mallards Pike parkrun
On 30th September a group of us who are regular parkrunners are going to Mallards Pike parkrun. It would be great to see a good number of Harriers at the event. If you haven’t been to a parkrun before then this would be a good one to start with. It is really easy to register to do parkrun, just go to the parkrun website, enter a few details and get your barcode. All you do then is turn up just before 9.00 and you are ready to go. We also have a Ledbury Harriers WhatsApp group where we exchange details of results and suggestions about where to go. If you want to join the group please let me know and we can add you.
We are probably going to try and meet up on the last Saturday of every month to do a different parkrun so keep an eye out for announcements about that.
Fun and Fast
Dave Elks has taken charge of this and it restarted last Thursday. Dave will post details of the week’s session on Facebook. We usually meet at the end of Prince Rupert’s Road on New Mills at 6.00, just turn up if you want to join in the fun. Occasionally we go over to Eastnor DeerPark for a ‘hill session’.
Newent Nine
Entries are now open for this years Mandy Whittington Newent 9 which will take place on Sunday 19th November. Entries are limited to 300 and I spoke to the organiser yesterday and she told me they already have about 150 entries. We always have a good turn out of harriers for this race so if you are thinking of running it please enter soon or you may be too late.
Winter Cross Country
The dates for this winter’s cross country league runs have been confirmed
15th October Venue Builth
12th November Venue Croft
3rd December Venue Wye Valley
14th January 2024 Venue To be confirmed
25th February Venue to be confirmed
We have a number of members who compete regularly and it would be great if we could have both a men’s and women’s team at each event. Neil (Grinnell) is our organiser and he will post details of how to register etc. You do not have to run every race and all standards are welcome.
Couch to 5K
The club will be running a couch to 5K course beginning in January 2024. If you know of anyone who might be interested in doing the course please let them know. Full details will be posted in due course. We are also looking for people to help lead the course. If you are interested in doing that please let Sally Smart know.
Magnificent Eastnor Castle 7 2024
The date for next years Mag7 has been confirmed as 17th March 2024. Please save the date as we need marshals etc for the day. We are also looking to find some sponsors to help cover the cost of organising the race. If you know of any local (or National) businesses who might be interested please let me know.
I think that’s quite enough to be going on with for the moment. Have a great month running and hope to see lots of you at the various events.
Best wishes
Mark
